Make
A Grand Entrance
Use these Five Secrets!
Remember
the saying “You never get a second chance to make a great
first impression”? Your entry is the very embodiment of
that time-tested adage. With holiday entertaining right around
the corner, discover how to create an entry that almost takes
your breath away with dramatic beauty.
1.
Color Me Beautiful
Your entry’s main color sets the mood for the rest of your
home. If you love color, it’s the perfect place to use richer,
more saturated hues for your walls. Take the dominant color from
a room nearby and turn up the volume a notch or two. Or choose
a lighter or darker shade of an accent color in an adjacent room
as your main wall color.
2.
Light Check, Please.
Need more light? The difference a new chandelier can make is amazing.
Scale and proportion are really important here. If you have a
two story foyer, choose a chandelier with two tiers of lights.
Dress it up with beaded silk lampshades. Add a ceiling medallion.
One of the best lighting tricks is to install a dimmer switch.
You control the mood. And always have a secondary lighting source
in your foyer such as one or two buffet lamps placed on a console
table. Illuminate a dark corner with an uplight hidden behind
a tall airy palm nestled in a jardinière.
3.
Tickle Your Toes
Every great entry needs a fabulous area rug. It’s a key
design element often overlooked. Whether you choose a simple or
intricate design, bring in colors found in the rest of your home.
Be sure to match the dimensions of your rug to the size of your
entry. Still not sure? It’s smart to call on Interior Reflections’

4.
Dramatically Enlarge A Small Entry
Use the magic of mirrors to bring new life to
your entry. Maximize light with a sophisticated floor to ceiling
mirror. No room for a mirror that large? Consider mirroring a
door. Depending on how your door is positioned, it may double
a gorgeous view of the outdoors.
If you already have an entry mirror, make sure it is paired with
a wonderful table. Even a small entry usually has the space for
a Demilune (half moon) table placed below a great mirror
5.
Design With Classic Accessories
The mantra “less is more”
really applies here. A common mistake is to fill up entry walls
and tabletops with itty bitty accessories. Do an honest appraisal
of your accessories. Go bold. Live large. Create a focal point
by displaying a grand piece of art. Adorn your wall with a rich
tapestry. Express yourself using floor and tabletop easels to
display art and photos. Bring nature inside with a lush mango
tree that looks so realistic, you have to touch it. A large crystal
compote placed on any foyer furniture piece looks fascinating.
For the holidays, fill with sparkling ornaments.
Too
busy to search for the right accessories? Tired of buying furnishings
